A public consultation exhibition is being held to showcase proposed changes to the Jalsea Marine at the Weaver Shipyard site in Northwich, next to the River Weaver and Marshalls Arm Nature Reserve.

This will take place on Monday, September 19 from 3–7pm at Castle Sports and Social Club in David Street, Northwich.

New proposals for the development of an eight acre waterfront site in Northwich, currently owned by Jalsea Marine Ltd, will be on view to the public for the first time at the event.

The River Weaver shipyard site currently has a variety of uses including moorings, boat repairs and storage.

However, the business owners have asked H20 Urban, a national joint venture partnership between the Canal and River Trust and specialist waterfront developer BLOC, to come up with a more sustainable use for the site.

The current proposal includes plans for detached and semi-detached homes, apartments, a marina featuring new moorings, a light repair workshop and associated facilities.

Under the plans, the private site would be redeveloped and opened up to the public, offering a pleasant riverside walk and attractive extension to the Marshalls Arm Nature Reserve.

Vehicular access to the site and Marshalls Arm Nature Reserve would be improved by widening the single track road on Saxons Lane to two lanes.

H20 project manager Nick Morton explained: “The aim is to transform this under-utilised, run-down site into an attractive, waterside development which enhances the appearance of the River Weaver Navigation and the south side of Northwich.

“Under the proposals, the private site would be opened up to the public, giving great access down to the waterfront.

“We would very much like to hear what local people think about the proposals before we submit an application for outline planning permission.”

Owner of Jalsea Marine Jeremy Tyrrell said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with H20 to find a more sustainable use for this waterfront site. The under-utilised site has huge potential to provide a wonderful setting for new homes and an improved marina with associated facilities. We look forward to delivering this with H20 in the near future.’’
