2015 is set to be one of the biggest years yet for high school proms and for many girls what dress to wear is one of the most crucial decisions leading up to the big night.

The range of dresses on offer grows each year as more and more senior schools adopt the American tradition but nudes and pastels remain a strong favourite, with sheer overlays proving a popular look for the landmark night.

Katy Robinson, of My Secret Wardrobe, in Hoole, said: “Our fastest selling dresses this season have been chiffon pink and chiffon white with only a very subtle detail.

“Another regular debate in our changing rooms is about black and whether or not black is acceptable for school prom, but this year we have sold lots of black.”

In a bid to bag a look that stands out from the crowd, parents are spending on average £300 on gowns for their daughters but more and more are choosing to hire dresses as the options available grow each year.

Katy added: “This year our rental customers have been much higher with many parents seeing the benefits of hiring a stunning gown for their daughter rather than buying it.”
