ROOKIE reporters at a Frodsham primary school have scooped first prize in a newspaper competition.

The editorial team of Frodsham Weaver Vale’s newspaper, The Weaver Chronicle, was one of three winners of the competition run by the Cheshire Enterprise Learning Partnership.

School governor Julian Goodier-Page, who helped the children produce the newsletter said: “Each child took ownership of a particular article, section or stage of the production process.

“We were incredibly pleased to be chosen as one of three winners.”

The judges were Jane Kinnaird, director of enterprise at Birchwood Community High School and Gary Skentelbery, managing director of the Warrington Worldwide, Warrington’s online daily newspaper.

Jane presented the pupils with their prize of two digital cameras and a year’s subscription to the newspaper.

She said: “The judges were impressed with the layout of the paper and the team’s marketing and fundraising strategies.”

The other prize winners were Duddon St Peter’s and a school in Warrington.
