Filming of the second series of ITV’s hugely popular wartime drama Home Fires is due to start in Bunbury.

The channel has confirmed a new series of the show, which focuses on a group of inspirational women in a rural Cheshire community separated from their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers by war, and that once again, scenes will be filmed in Bunbury.

Residents have been informed that production teams will be in the village from the first week of September filming scenes and looking for locations until December.

For the second time, Bunbury will be transformed into a 1940s setting for the show, which stars acclaimed British actresses Francesca Annis and Samantha Bond, and will no doubt feature well-known locations such as the Nag’s Head pub, the Village Chippy fish and chip shop and St Boniface Church.

The show proved a huge hit with Sunday night audiences, pulling in millions of viewers each week.

Inspired by author Julie Summers’ non-fiction book Jambusters, it tells the story of the Great Paxford Women’s Institute, who help to maintain the nation’s fabric in its darkest hour, discovering inner resources along the way that will change their lives forever.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed that production is to start on September 7 until December 11.

“Some filming will take place in and around Bunbury and will involve a variety of exterior street scenes and also some interior houses and buildings.

“We are grateful to Cheshire East Council, Bunbury Parish Council and The WI for their continued support and we will be working closely with them in the coming months to try and keep disruption to a minimum for the village, its residents and its businesses.

“We are very much looking forward to spending some more time in Bunbury,” the spokesperson added.
