Heavy traffic has been causing headaches at Cheshire Oaks on Boxing Day — Shoppers heading to Cheshire Oaks mean there is severe congestion on surrounding roads and motorways

Police are warning motorists to consider alternative routes as traffic builds up on the M53 and M56 near Cheshire Oaks.

Cheshire Police tweeted: "Severe traffic congestion in the vicinity of Cheshire Oaks In particular junction 10 of the M53. Please allow extra time for your journey."

NW Motorway Police added: "large tailbacks on M56 and M53 on the approach to Cheshire Oaks, if you can find an alternative route please do so."

The delays are having a knock on effect for motorists heading elsewhere in the region.

Mr B (Mark) @DiamondTimeLord was hoping to head to Shropshire today.

He tweeted:

The traffic is affecting bus services as well. Stagecoach MCSL tweeted: " #Birkenhead . Svc 1 is running subject to delays in both directions, due to heavy traffic in and around Cheshire Oaks."
