A MAN is believed to be seriously injured and on the run after a crash near Chester this morning (Wednesday, November 26) which left one person dead.
The car, a silver Vauxhall Omega, had been involved in a police pursuit after three men were seen wearing balaclavas and armed with a sledgehammer in the car park of the Eight Rights shortly after 3am.
Police discovered the car at 3.23am after it had collided with a heavy goods vehicle on the junction of the A540 and Capenhurst Lane close to the Yacht Inn.
The driver was seriously injured and taken to hospital and the passenger died at the scene.
Police spokeswoman Shelley Williams said: “We believe there may have been a third person in the Vauxhall Omega and the severity of the crash suggests the person may have injuries.
“There have been police searches in the area to try and find out if anyone is injured nearby so this person can receive medical treatment.
“We ask anyone living locally to check their premises and report any injured persons to the police but not to approach them.
“Further to this, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for consideration.”
