A 23-year-old man was dragged to a secluded location and beaten with sledgehammers during an alleged kidnapping in Chester.

On Friday (October 11), police cordoned off an address in Lucerne Close, Huntington, after a man was allegedly kidnapped from a house on the street.

Police are investigating claims that Mark Williams, 23, was taken against his will from the house, before being driven to a secluded location close to Acres Lane in Upton, beaten with sledgehammers and robbed of two gold chains worth almost £1,500.

Mr Williams, who sustained serious cuts and bruises, attended hospital but has since been discharged.

On Monday (October 14), Luke John Huston, of Allington Place, Chester, appeared before Chester magistrates charged with kidnapping and robbing Mr Williams on Friday, October 11.

The 24-year-old, who spoke only to confirm his name and address, was also charged with blackmailing Deborah and Shannon Matthews on Saturday, October 12.

Huston, who was arrested by police in the early hours of Saturday morning, was also charged with driving a Nissan Almera dangerously along the A55 on Saturday morning, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

Police confirmed that a second man, aged 25, has also been arrested in connection with the allegations. He has been bailed while police make further enquires.

Huston is due to appear before Chester Crown Court on Monday (October 28) for a preliminary hearing.
