Suspicious packages at a sorting office in Chester were found to be two BB guns and a plastic container which required ‘further investigation’.

Cheshire Police were called to the Royal Mail office in Jupiter Drive at 10.50am on Friday (February 12).

A tweet sent out from the force’s official account said it was ‘amazing what people post’.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that officers from Cheshire Police recovered two suspicious packages from the Royal Mail Sorting Office in Chester.

“The packages, which included two BB guns, have been returned to Blacon Police station for examination and further investigations.”

Alarm and distress

Further posts on the constabulary’s Facebook page said the BB guns had caused alarm and distress at the sorting office because they were ‘packaged irresponsibly’.

But they added it was not illegal to post or own them, and the items were later ‘left in possession with Royal Mail to deliver to their rightful owners’.

The statement did not confirm what the green substance was in the plastic box, which is still in the hands of police.
