A 60-YEAR-OLD man has been found dead in the canal near Marbury.

A passer-by made the discovery at 9am on Friday and alerted the police.

Officers discovered the man’s vehicle, an N-registered Ford Fiesta on the A49 at Quoisley Bridge adjacent to the canal.

It appears the man, from Whitchurch, had collided with a telegraph pole.

PC David Alexander said: “It’s possible the collision could have taken place any time from 10pm on Thursday and the following morning.

“We’re asking anyone who may have seen either the vehicle, or the man walking down the A49 or the towpath.

“We’d stress that we’re not treating the death as suspicious. We’re just trying to establish the circumstances that led up to his death.”

The man’s identity had still not been released when the Chronicle went to press yesterday.
