Police are advising motorists to avoid Saltney High Street in Chester after a lorry got stuck under the railway bridge.

Cheshire and North Wales officers are in attendance along with Network Rail staff after a flat-back HGV wagon, carrying a digger, became lodged under the bridge about 10.20am today (Thursday, March 6).

Sergeant Ian Wilson, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said one side of the carriageway was currently blocked and there was “a bit of traffic chaos”. He advised motorists to avoid the route for the time-being.

Sergeant Wilson added: “It’s blocked one way and we are trying to alleviate the traffic problems at the moment. It’s best to avoid the route for the foreseeable until we manage to sort it out.”
