A POPULAR pizza restaurant has signed up for a spot on a new £13m leisure development at Broughton Shopping Park.

The park’s owner has exchanged legal agreements with PizzaExpress for a new restaurant with outdoor seating.

Construction will begin if council planning chiefs give the extension the green light at a meeting in County Hall, Mold, next Wednesday, April 17.

If approved the multi-million-pound complex is set to feature an 11-screen multiplex cinema and five high quality family restaurants.

American/Italian style diner Frankie & Benny’s and Mexican restaurant and bar Chiquito have also signed up, as has Cineworld – who say they would shut their Greyhound Retail Park site in Chester and move to Broughton if the plans get the go-ahead.

Broughton Shopping Park manager Colin Gilligan said: “We are delighted that PizzaExpress will be joining Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito to provide a family dining offer at the park if planning is approved by the council in two weeks’ time.

“The new cinema and restaurants will reinforce and enhance the overall attraction of the destination and preserve the vitality of the existing shopping park.

“We have been delighted with the continued support for our proposals from our local customers.”

The extension – which will create at least 230 jobs – will be located on an underutilised area of the existing car park.

New parking will be provided to replace spaces and a new public space will also be created in front of the restaurant and cinema entrances.

There will also be improvements to public transport at the retail park.
