There was a lot of messing about on the river today (Sunday, July 6) for the 39th annual charity raft race.

Launched in style by fly boarder Jay St John, the 38 rafts that took part flooded the river with colour as they each competed for best time and best raft in the Rotary Club of Chester's annual event.

Crowds flocked The Groves and the Queen's Park Suspension Bridge to view the spectacle which was bathed in sunshine.

Companies taking part in the race included Autocare, Watergates Bar, Ball Packaging Europe UK, Crane Bank Garage, CSA group, Lookers, The Queen's School, Port Tyres & Autocare, Friends of Ysgol Pen Coch, The Handbridge, Hickorys Smokehouse, Bar Lounge, Royden Revolve Rotary, Druids Inn Gorsedd, Greif UK Ltd, Marshall Aviation services Ltd, Mersey Flex, Peacock Garage, Gwynt y Mor Wind Farm, Andy Shone, Cheshire Young Carers, Crowne Plaza, M & S Bank, Alan Sproston Ltd, Cheshire Waste Skip Hire, Survitec Group, Old Harkers Arms, Crocky Trial and Chester Sea Cadets.
