LAW student Will Harris makes a good case for buying fuel out of Crewe.

Notching up hundreds of miles every year, he can save pounds by filling up where the price is right.

Will, 21, on work experience at the Chronicle, is in his final year of training at Oxford Brookes University and drives home as often as he can afford to Coole Pilate near Audlem.

He said: 'I'm a student who recently bought an oldish Rover 414 which costs about £35 to fill the tank.

'In just a few months petrol prices have gone only one way - up.

'I can accept why, but what winds me up is having to pay more in Crewe and Nantwich when only down the road in Stoke I can pay less.

'Driving past a petrol station in Market Drayton, I noticed the price of a litre of unleaded was 91.9p. 'I'll pick some up on my way back,' I thought. A few hours later, the price had shot up to 95.9p.

'This was clearly not an isolated incident. It seems that petrol stations are following each other's lead in hiking up prices.

'It's no wonder such shenanigans are fuelling people's frustrations.

'We're a working class area, too. We're not much better off than our neighbours in Stoke.

'Unfortunately it's not worth travelling the extra distance for a cheaper price.

'On my way to Oxford if I see fuel at a good price, I fill up there and then. It can save me £2-£3 a trip - that's the cost of a pint!'
