Chester and District Stroke Club have received a boost to their fundraising efforts following a successful charity Barn Party held in September.

The event, which was held in a former hay barn at Yew Tree Farm, Ince, was attended by more than 120 local people and was organised by brother and sister Andrew Eardley and Emma Martin, supported by their partners Nicola and Paul.

The evening of entertainment featured local bands, a hog roast and raised £1,224.

Andrew said: “Our mum suffered a quite severe stroke in November 2010 and although she’s made real progress in her recovery she still feels the effects. She’s benefited hugely from being able to meet with other stroke survivors at the monthly meetings of the Chester and District Stroke Club for some great social time and to also learn from each other’s experiences. We wanted to do something to help them in their fundraising efforts - which they do 100% themselves - so that those who find the Stroke Club so valuable could benefit from some additional funds being raised to help their efforts.”

Emma added, “We’d like to thank all those who attended the event, donated raffle prizes or contributed towards the entertainment/food in support of this really great cause. We’ve seen first hand the devastating effects that stroke can have. Groups like the Chester and District Stroke Club make a real difference to the lives of stroke survivors. They do a fantastic job and we were really delighted by the support shown for this event.”

Chester and District Stroke Club meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Chester and District Centre for Deaf People in Southview Road.

In addition to the monthly meetings, they arrange events such as coach trips and raise all their funds themselves.
