Police are appealing for information following the theft of a car involved in a collision which resulted in the closure of Parkgate Road in Chester for more than five hours.

At 5.33am today (Monday, March 14) police received reports of a car stolen from an address in Stamford Road, Blacon.

Following a search of the area, they discovered the car in Saughall Village and followed it a short distance before losing sight of it.

A short while later, at about 5.46am, they came across the stolen white Fiat Punto Dynamic which had been in collision with a HGV at the junction of the A540 Parkgate Road and Long Lane, Saughall.

A 25-year-old man and a 15 year-old boy have both been taken to hospita l as a result of the collision. The driver of the HGV was uninjured.

The A540 Parkgate Road remained closed while police investigated the collision and Cheshire Police Professional Standards Department has now referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of course.
