A town councillor has offered his resignation.

Parkgate town councillor Dr Malcolm Cox has resigned from Neston Town Council due to family circumstances. Dr Cox has explained he is having to spend considerable time away and is unable to get to most meetings.

He said: “I feel resigning is in the best interests of the council and constituents as my being absent for such a long time, being unable to attend meetings or offer support and help is not appropriate.”

Dr Cox originally joined the council as a co-opted member three years ago.

Town mayor Mike Shipman said he would like to thank Dr Cox for his work on the council but understood the difficulties facing him at present.

The vacancy will be filled by election if one is called by at least 10 residents of Parkgate ward by Monday August 15, otherwise by co-option at the meeting of the council on Tuesday August 30.

Anyone wishing to fill the vacancy should contact the council manager at the town hall, e mail council@nestontowncouncil.org.uk.

The council says another vacancy in Riverside ward is also expected to be filled by co-option at the meeting taking place on August 30.
