Outsiders moo-ve in on cattle titles

MAJOR successes for local exhibitors in the cattle classes at Nantwich Show were few and far between.

MAJOR successes for local exhibitors in the cattle classes at Nantwich Show were few and far between.

The dairy cattle supreme championship went to B and L Whitfield and Son from New House Farm, Wolverley, Wem, with Holstein cow, Avenham Jolt Companion.

Closer to home was the supreme championship in the beef cattle section which went to N Simms from Hulse Farm, Lach Dennis.

HW Oultram and Co from Ewloe, Flintshire, won the Ayrshires championship for the second year in succession, Leverhulme Farms, of Thornton House, Wirral, took the Guernseys title, M Hill of Cul-beck Farm, Euxton, Chorley, Lancashire, was the top Shorthorn winner and in the Jersey classes Smiddiehill Holsteins from Al-brighton, Shropshire triumphed.

Success in the Brown Swiss class came to C and M Candy from Light Hey Farm, Buglawton, Congleton.

The Herefords championship was won by RA Shaw of Hallwood Farm, Ledsham, Wirral, Roger Birch of Weston, Stafford, scooped the Simmental title, the British Charolais top award was won by Boden and Davies of Mellor, Stock-port, and the Belgian Blue title was won by J Barber and G Brindley from Astbury, Congleton.

J and V Barlow of Minshull Hall, Church Minshull, took firsts and picked up the champion heifer award. Also in the Holsteins, J and M Porter of Barthomley, Crewe, gained a first in the cow in calf class, and G and B Bell, of Chesterton Farm, Ridley, Tarporley, was a winner in the Holstein production and inspection class.

M and P Barnett from Bank Farm, Twemlow, Holmes Chapel, gained a first in yearling section.

H J Tomlinson and Partners from Church Farm, Acton, won the heifer in milk class. R J Posnett and J A Hope from the Tiresford Farm, Tarporley, scored a hat-trick of wins in the Guernsey sections.

Two wins in the Brown Swiss section came for J Ball of Lynn House Farm, Betchton, Sandbach, in the heifer and heifer in calf classes. And there was a win for John Bell of Ridley in the Inter-Breed handling class.

Local winners were to be found in a few of the Beef Cattle sections.

In the Simmental section S White, from Clotton, Tarporley, came out on top and in the year-old heifer, group of three and calf classes, and for heifers born from 2002-2003 John and Helen Mossford from Cholmondeley were winners.

P and N Darlington from Spring Farm, Minshull Vernon, won the male championship in the British Charolais section.

Ray Burt from Gradeley Green Farm, Burland, Nantwich was a winner in the British Breed heifer class, Wilf Burrows of Noman-sheath, Malpas, picked up firsts with his heifer and calf in the Continental section, and A Plumb-ley and Co from Calveley Green Farm, Calveley, took a first in the Continental senior bull class.
