CHESTER MP Stephen Mosley loves how the celebrations around the Olympics and the Jubilee are bringing the community together.

Mr Mosley, wife Caroline and their young son and daughter, were in the crowd greeting the Olympic torch as it came down Hough Green near their family home.

Mr Mosley, speaking later at the Roodee event, told The Chronicle: “It’s absolutely fantastic. We have had 20,000 people here at the racecourse and everyone has had a great time. It was an amazing experience when the horse came in with the flame. Everyone cheered. It was fantastic and really, really shows off Chester at its best.”

Talking about the party atmosphere, he added: “It’s not just the Olympics, it’s the Jubilee as well. We’ve got that next week and I think everybody is coming together to celebrate both occasions. All the flags are out on the pubs and houses. It’s brilliant fun. Everyone is enjoying it and it’s absolutely great.”

Grandma Shirley Brown from Curzon Park was with her granddaughter Tamia and the nine-year-old’s mum Lorna Nhova from Boughton.

Mrs Brown said: “I enjoy seeing everyone getting together and being friendly. I think everyone from our estate came out to see the torch go up Hough Green. It’s just brilliant to see everyone who is normally in their houses come out and see each other and it was a really lovely atmosphere.”

Tamia had her picture taken with the torch which she said was ‘cool’. Mum Lorna described the Chester Olympics event as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’. She hopes it will inspire local youngsters to keep fit and healthy and get involved with sport.

Friends Mary Scott, 18, and Laura Stockton, 17, both from Handbridge, queued to have their picture taken with the torch which Laura said was ‘really cool’. Mary commented that it was ‘very inspiring’ to see the runner carrying the flame.
