OLYMPIC stars have been sharing their expertise with young hockey players in the city.

British Olympic field hockey goal keeper and Commonwealth medal winner Carolyn Reid and London 2012 hopeful Sam Quec coached Queen’s Lower School girls in the art of defending, midfielding and scoring goals at the end of August.

In the afternoon the girls put their skills into practice in a fun tournament.

JJB sports manager Mike Picton, who sponsored the tournament prizes, said: “Hopefully the day will have inspired the girls to become Olympic athletes.”

Hope Pugh, 10, who took part, said: “I really enjoyed learning top hockey tips. It was a fantastic day.”

Martine Green, teacher at the lower school and hockey coach at both the lower and senior schools, added: “I was delighted when both Carolyn and Samantha agreed to be a part of the day. I have played against Carolyn and coached Sam as a youngster and knew they would help to inspire and enthuse our girls.”

Carolyn and Sam spent time at the end of the day answering questions, signing autographs and having photos taken with the girls.
