RESIDENTS of Christleton celebrated its status as Best Kept Village in Cheshire with a tree planting ceremony.

The village was presented with the oak sapling after earning the accolade at the 55th Community Pride Competition in October.

Lord Mayor of Chester Eleanor Johnson was guest of honour at the ceremony at Little Heath Road play area.

She was joined by councillors Janet Brown and Colin Crawford, representatives from the Cheshire Landscape Trust and town clerk Richard Salmon.

The village was also awarded a plaque and a painting by Gordon Wilkinson, Cheshire Life’s watercolour artist.
