A CHRONICLE reader from Newton is looking for some help in tracing her family tree.

Pam Bartlett, née Thomas, is trying to find out more about the Denson family, who lived in Saltney.

Pam’s nan Florence was one of the 12 or 13 children of Richard and Martha Denson and Pam believes that they lived in Denson’s Cottage and had a farm. According to records, Florence’s brothers and sisters are called William, Edward, Richard, Margaret, Mary, Alice, Edith, Eva, Jane, Sarah and Thomas.

.Florence, who died when Pam was seven, lived in the city centre and had a stall in the old Chester Market.

Pam, who is married with three children, grew up in Lache and she thinks there may be a family connection with Hough Green.

She said: “I’ve always loved history and I have recently joined the local history society in Hoole.

“I am also looking at my grandfather’s family tree – George Harry Thomas.”

George fought in and survived the Second Boer War (1899-1902) and the First World War and died in Chester in his old age.
