SPORTY school children tagged the top prize in a fiercely fought competition.

Norley C E Primary School were announced 2010 tag rugby champions after competing in a series of tag rugby competitions throughout Cheshire.

Around 500 teams took part in the tournament and the Norley team only lost one game and drew two.

Norley C E Primary is a small village school with only 73 pupils and the team that represented the school consisted of the whole Year 6 group, eight boys and four girls with mixed ability levels in the sport. They were playing against much bigger schools with more pupils in Year 6.

Headteacher Ann Griffiths said: “The school community are very proud of the tremendous achievements of the children and are particularly proud of the team spirit the children showed throughout the tournament.”

The Norley tag rugby team have been invited to take part in the North West regional finals in June 2011.

Tag rugby coach, Mr Gadd said: “The combination of three years of coaching and the exceptional sportiness of the Year 6’s has resulted in this outstanding and well deserved success at county level. The children are amazing.”
