A nine-year-old boy was sadly killed at the scene of a collision close to Elton yesterday afternoon (July 31).

Officers from Cheshire Roads Policing team are investigating the fatal accident involving a dark blue Ford Focus which overturned on the A5117, near Chester Services, about 3.55pm on Sunday.

No other vehicles were involved.

The 42-year-old male driver was taken to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool. A 15-year-old boy, who was a rear seat passenger, was taken to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. Sadly, the front seat passenger from the Focus, a nine-year-old boy from Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police, fire and ambulance services attended. The operation involved the police helicopter and the air ambulance which both landed at the scene.

The Manchester-bound carriageway of the M56 was extremely busy leading up to junction 14 yesterday afternoon which is thought to have been because of the closure of the A5117 and also due to a separate collision at Littleton which led to the A51 being blocked.

Anyone with any information about the fatal collision is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 640, of 31/7/2016.
