An alleged victim in the trial of Nicholas Crawshaw said he raped her in Grosvenor Park in Chester while she was underage, a court heard.

She was the third complainant to give evidence in the ongoing trial at Warrington Crown Court.

Crawshaw, of West Street, Hoole, is accused of 16 sex offences, including 10 rapes, against seven victims between 2010 and 2015.

The woman, who cannot be identified, told the court today (Monday, February 15) that Crawshaw, 23, raped her in a small clearing surrounded by bushes in April 2010.

The alleged victim said she was walking through Chester after school and spotted the 23-year-old, who did not go to the same Chester high school but she had met through friends.

She had just split up with her boyfriend and Crawshaw invited her to the park to ‘cheer her up’, the court heard.

The complainant said she felt it was ‘weird’ as the two of them climbed through the bush into the clearing and Crawshaw pointed out his own house.

But she could not recall how it got to them having sex, the jury was told.

She said: “I just remember lying there and taking it. I must’ve said stop five or six times, but he carried on for about five minutes.

“Then I thought ‘No, this isn’t right’ and I started pushing him off. Eventually he did.”

She said Crawshaw did not say anything and the next thing she remembered was being on the bus home ‘trying to process everything that had happened’.

Mark le Brocq, defending, said: “This is in a public place and you say you were raped in broad daylight. It simply didn’t happen.

“You said it was a hot day. I imagine there were quite a lot of people in the park at the time. You could’ve called out at any time.”

Crawshaw denies the incident ever happened.

Simon Mills, prosecuting, said: “What were you thinking about while he was on top of you?” The alleged victim said: “Stop.”

In the months after the alleged attack, the complainant changed schools and started having nightmares three or four times a week, the court heard.

She said she did not mention it to anyone until she told some of her friends about the incident years later - one is another alleged victim in the case who claims Crawshaw raped her in the same park.

Mr Le Brocq alleged the two of them made up the incidents involving the 23-year-old together.

The defence also produced a document which showed the alleged victim had seen a councillor in 2013 for sleep problems, but did not mention any previous abuse in these meetings.

She had also told her aunt a made-up friend had been raped by Crawshaw, before eventually breaking down and telling what had happened, the court heard.

When other allegations about Crawshaw came to light, her aunt made contact with police.

The 23-year-old denies all the charges against him.

The trial at Warrington Crown Court continues.
