The children, parents and staff of Newton Primary School have thrown themselves into a huge effort to raise funds for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Over the years, the hospice has given invaluable support to many families in the school community, most recently to much-loved teacher Sue Wilcox, and everyone felt it was time to show their appreciation.

The children’s first fundraising act was a sponsored walk, which took place on Thursday, March 24.

The children walked between two and six miles with the oldest children enjoying a picnic lunch by the canal river before walking back to school along the canal and the millennium greenway.

Organiser Jane Fisher said: “All the children were fantastic!

“The Year 3 and 4 children really enjoyed their walk around the city walls and the amount of money raised so far has been amazing!”

The school had set themselves a target of £2,500 which has already been exceeded with abalance so far of £2,598 with more exciting fund raising events planned.
