NEWTON Primary school pupils have been digging deep.

The youngsters have been planting trees in their school grounds.

The school were allocated a tree planting pack as part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Big Tree Plant.

Funding for the project came from BTCV (formerly known as the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers), a charity with a successful history of environmental conservation throughout the UK and Keep Britain Tidy.

The children helped plant the trees and are now watering and nurturing them.
