Women are being invited to develop their skills and help improve the local community by attending a new group for the residents of Blacon.

The Women’s Institute (WI) is looking to establish the new group at the Parade Enterprise Centre, supported by Avenue Services, which is offering ladies educational opportunities, as well as the chance to campaign on issues that matter to them and their community.

The WI, which was formed in 1915, is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK.

There are 8,000 WI members in Cheshire and more than 212,000 members across the UK.

The next WI meeting will take place from 6.30 to 8.30pm on Wednesday March 2 and then the first Wednesday of every month at the Parade Enterprise Centre, Blacon, CH1 5HN.

Vice-chairman of the Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes Jean Harding said: “We look forward to welcoming you as we try to establish a group in Blacon. You have nothing to lose but maybe much to gain so please come and learn more at this no obligation meeting.”

Neighbourhood and localities officer for Avenue Services Sandra Hewitt added: “I would encourage ladies in Blacon to support this fantastic group and help shape the future of the area.”
