CHESTER’S newest primary school has unveiled its new uniform and logo to go with its new building and forthcoming sports facilities.

Chester Blue Coat CE Primary on Walpole Street, in the Garden Quarter, was formed in September 2011 from the amalgamation of Victoria infant and St Thomas of Canterbury CE junior schools.

From September, the children’s red jumpers will be replaced by a smart new navy blue sweatshirt with an embroidered silver and royal blue logo, teamed with a white or navy polo shirt, or optional white shirt and the existing red and silver tie.

Headteacher Vince O’Brien said: “Since amalgamation we have been concentrating on the things we feel really matter to our school, such as raising standards and uniting two very different schools.

“Now, with our excellent Ofsted report and successful move into our new building behind us, and our sports pitches nearing completion, we have turned our attention to our logo and uniform.”

A consultation of pupils, staff, parents, governors, the community and church interests showed an overwhelming 85 per cent of respondents in favour of the change to navy blue.

Chair of governors and former city MP Christine Russell said: “I am delighted with the new uniform and know the children can’t wait to start wearing it. Retaining the option of a red and silver tie maintains our links with tradition and contrasts smartly with the new navy uniform.”
