It’s all change in one city centre street as yet another restaurant operator moves in.

Panda Mami World Buffet will be the third new venue in Chester's Newgate Street.

It will take the place of the former Chinese Buffet City and Thai restaurant Thaixotic, both in the same building, which closed some time ago.

Contractors are beavering away inside with one workman suggesting the restaurant, which will offer cuisine from around the globe, should be open before Christmas.

A premises licence is in place to allow the sale of alcohol with opening hours agreed of 11am until midnight Monday to Sunday.

The former Buffet City in Newgate Street is being converted into the Panda Mami World Buffet.

The applicant is Kaixiang Liu of Xiangyang Ltd but interestingly the trading name of the outfit is still listed as Buffet City.

Plans have been approved for a new aluminium glazed entrance, illuminated projecting signs , extractor duct and chiller plant.

Meanwhile, just a few doors away contractors are also busy converting what was Italian restaurant Zizzi into Brazilian steak house Picanha.

The Blackhouse Grill and Zizzi in Newgate Street, Chester, have been taken over by other companies to be converted into new venues.

Blackhouse Grill opposite has now closed ahead of a refurbishment that will see it turned into an All Bar One outlet.

The general area has been dubbed the Dining Quarter following the opening in Pepper Street of Latin American-style Las Iguanas, Opera Grill, American-themed Coast to Coast and Mexican restaurant Chimichanga.

There are plans for another five restaurants within the Grosvenor Shopping Centre on the other side of the street.

City MP Chris Matheson has raised concerns at the number of large restaurant chains currently targeting Chester saying he prefers to support small independent businesses.
