A sports lunch was a smash hit.

Squash players new and old turned out for the celebration at Neston Cricket Club, Parkgate.

Seven former captains were among the 110 club members, friends and family who attended.

The event was organised to mark 45 years of squash at Neston.

It is also the first year the club has had a side in the prestigious division 1 of the North West Counties Squash League.

Nick Mason, chairman of Neston Cricket Club Squash and Racketball, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon of memories going back to 1971 when the squash courts opened at the club.

“It was great to see so many great players from over the years mixing with our younger stars of today.”

Alan Brown, a former club president and former squash chairman, unveiled an honours board containing the names of all captains.

Neston’s current division 1 team includes no 1 player Emyr Evans who is ranked in the top 200 players in the world.

The squash club was introduced at the cricket ground with three courts.

It now runs five teams with an academy on Sunday afternoons.
