Firefighters from Chester and Winsford are among a specialist team on their way to Nepal to help in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that has killed more than 4000 people.

Overall, six Cheshire staff and a rescue dog have set off to join a 67-strong International Search and Rescue Team who will help with a search and rescue mission of the thousands of victims affected by the earthquake which also caused a massive avalanche on Mount Everest.

John Turner and Daz Tennant who are based at Chester Fire Station, join Alexander Hayes from Crewe and Stuart Devereux and Mark Coleman from Winsford, as well as Steve Buckley and rescue dog BrynPlus from Knutsford .

The team are currently in Dehli awaiting transport to Nepal, which has been severely disrupted. They are expected to reach their destiantion tomorrow (Wednesday).

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have an International Search and Rescue (ISAR) Team who respond to requests from the Government to help out during international disasters. The intention is for the team to arrive in the affected country within 24 hours of the disaster and be self sufficient for at least ten days.
