Drama students at The Bishops’ Blue Coat High School in Chester are celebrating their on-stage success, having been asked to represent award-winning writer Jamie Brittain (co-creator of hit Channel 4 series Skins) at The National Theatre in July.

The students and staff of the drama department took on Brittain’s new play Drama Baby as part of The National Theatre Connections project, which challenges schools and youth theatres across the UK to perform one of 10 plays in their home venue before performing in a Connections Festival weekend at a professional theatre.

The Bishops’ team, under the direction of Head of drama Rob Otton and teacher Ryan Gray, performed at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal.

The department were then chosen to take their show ‘on the road’ to the bright lights of London, beating some 350 schools and youth theatres to be the only school performing at the 20th anniversary Connections Festival at The National Theatre on South Bank in London.

The performance is on Saturday, July 4 at 8.30pm.
