BUDDING rock and pop musicians proved their credentials when they were invited to write and perform in their very own musical.

The project was organised by Development of the Arts in Northwich with financial backing from Youth Music and Amplifier to give youngsters a chance to show what they could do.

Theatre professionals Adie Billinge and Donna Frame ran the various workshops which included script-writing, set building, dancing and acting.

The music-making reached a climax on Friday when the show was performed for the first time in front of an appreciative audience of parents and friends.

Activities lined up for this week include a Dr Who workshop today (Wednesday) and an African Art workshop tomorrow (Thursday). Both events are being held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Castle, and run from 10am until 3pm. Tickets are £5 per session and children are asked to take a packed lunch.

The summer holiday programme comes to an end on Friday with a performance of The Am-A-Zing Thing by Lempen Puppets.

Storyteller Peter Grimm opens the box to find the 'thing' that takes him on an unusual journey that weaves its way through a medley of well-known Brothers Grimm tales, to finally unlock his imagination and free his stories. It is an original story told with puppets, acting and live music.

The show starts at 11am in The Harlequin Theatre, Queen Street. Tickets priced £2 are available from the DAN office in Northwich Library or on 01606 41597.
