Elderly residents in Chester celebrated the festive season in style enjoying a Christmas lunch organised by Muir Group Housing.

Thirty eight residents tucked into a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, along with crackers, bingo and live music, at the Queens Hotel in Chester.

For the second year running, housing officers at Muir Group Housing organised the event for elderly residents living in Chester and Blacon.

The event was made possible thanks to a donation from the Friends of Muir Group.

Councillors from Cheshire West and Chester Council also supported the event with a contribution from their Members Budget.

Annie Bellinger, community housing officer at Muir said: “We understand that Christmas can be a lonely time for some residents, so we wanted to treat some of our older residents in the build up to the festive period.

“The response has been fantastic. Our residents really enjoyed the event last year because it provides them with an opportunity to socialise and meet other people. It’s a great occasion and it’s lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

Les Patterson, chair of the Friends of Muir Group said: “Christmas lunches like this are very important, particularly for some of our elderly people who live on their own. We are always happy to support events such as this, as they bring the community together.”
