HALTON'S outspoken Euro MP Chris Davies has claimed fish and chips could disappear from the table within a generation unless more fishermen are forced off the seas.

The Liberal Democrat says current fishing practices are a 'disaster', adding a 'severe price' must be paid in the short term if the future of fish stocks is to be secured.

Mr Davies, added: 'Governments across Europe are still hell-bent on fishing to the point of extinction.

'Only last month, ministers insisted on allocating money to modernise fishing vessels, even though we should be reducing the number of boats at sea.'
