THE speed limit on Mouldsworth’s main road is to be reduced following a review.

A Speed Limit Review conducted on all A & B roads in West Cheshire has resulted in plans to reduce the current 40mph B5393 Station Road that runs through the village, to 30mph.

A 50mph limit between Mouldsworth and Ashton Hayes will also be implemented.

The changes have been given the thumbs up by parish councillors and residents, who say the speed limit review has been a long time coming.

Resident Peter Howarth, who lives on Station Road, said: “For a 40mph speed limit, the cars come hammering down here so I think it would be a positive change, if drivers don’t choose to ignore it,” he said.

“Any reduction is bound to have a corresponding reduction in the driver’s behaviour.

“Getting out of my own drive is a terrible blind spot so I hope this will make it safer.”

One parish councillor who did not wish to be named, said: “Although there hasn’t been any serious accidents I can think of, there have been plenty of near misses on that road.

“The parish council very much welcome these changes and I can’t think of anyone who would not.”

Cllr Hugo Deynem, Member for the Gowy ward, added: “The speed limits are being reduced as part of the implementation stage of the Speed Limit Review.

“This review utilised Department for Transport guidance, and these recommendations were agreed with Chester Area Highways Office and Cheshire Constabulary.

“We are now implementing the recommendations within that, hence the reductions on the B5393.”
