Heavy queues have cleared on the M56 after a three-vehicle crash.

Drivers hit delays due to the accident eastbound between junctions 14 at Hapsford and 12 for Runcorn.

Reports of the crash came in at about 2.45pm on Wednesday (July 20).

North West Motorway Police confirmed the incident had been cleared at about 3.15pm.

Traffic is now moving freely, but at its peak congestion had stretched back beyond J14.

It is the second accident on the M56 this week after a multi-vehicle crash caused tailbacks on Tuesday.
