A Chester jewellery retailer has marked a decade in business in the North West by winning Retailer of the Year at the National Associations of Jewellers Awards in Birmingham.

Mococo, of Foregate Street, were up against five leading jewellers for the award which included Beaverbooks, Boodles, F Hinds and the Aurum Group.

The company also won Branded Retailer of the Year in the Retail Jeweller Inspiring Independents awards in September.

Managing director and founder Maureen Hooson, said; “For a small business which started with jewellery parties in my front room to becoming a successful company and win such a prestigious award in the NAJ’s is such an honour. To get here today, 10 years later, looking around at our beautiful stores, incredible team and most importantly, our loyal and valued customers, it really is a very emotional day for our family-run business.”

Mococo also ran a £10,000 giveaway this year to help celebrate their 10 years in business, which was won by a Chester woman.

More than 21,000 entrants participated in the prize draw through My Mococo - the independent and family-run retailer’s loyalty scheme.

Six finalists were invited to a special announcement event held at the brand’s flagship Chester store in September where Sandra Lewis, 51, was declared the winner and received £5,000 to spend on luxury jewellery. Five runners-up received a £1,000 gift card to spend in store.

The National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) was formed in 2015 through the unification of the British Jewellers Association (BJA) and National Association of Goldsmiths (N.A.G) and represents more than 2,000 members whose businesses operate in every aspect of the jewellery industry.
