BIG Brother’s ‘Little Brother’, alias Verne Troyer, caused mini-mayhem when he was mobbed by 1,400 screaming fans at a Chester nightclub.
Verne, 40, who played Dr Evil’s miniature twin Mini Me in the Austin Powers movie, made his first public appearance at Cruise after coming fourth in the Channel 4 series last Friday.
The crowd, many of whom were attending the regular Beans student night, shouted “Verne, Verne” as soon as he made his way across the road from The Blossoms Hotel, where he was staying.
Verne was seated in a chair on a specially constructed stage to enable revellers to see him, while DJ Mike Hannigan put vetted questions to the pint-sized star on behalf of the audience.
Verne’s assistants were anxious to avoid breaking an exclusive media deal worth £250,000, although fans were allowed to take photos on their mobiles phones and many got his autograph.
Among those lucky enough to kiss Verne on both cheeks were Kirsty Ollerhead and Gabby McPhearson of Chester.
Cruise operations manager Nick Harding, who described Verne Troyer as a “world renowned superstar”, said: “It was unbelievable. It was like Man Utd winning the championship. They absolutely loved him. They were screaming for him.
“Verne spent about three hours with everybody, doing autographs.
“When he came out of the hotel people were screaming down the street.”
Mr Harding said Verne, who stands at 2ft 8in tall, talked about his experience in the Big Brother house, fellow contestant La Toya Jackson and his frequent visits to Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.
Later he joined in the party atmosphere by dancing in one of the booths alongside the disco. He didn’t leave until 3.30am.
Verne is spending about two weeks in the UK before flying back to America.
