The Mercian Regiment have joined a multinational force for an intense training exercise in Poland.

Chester-based 2nd Battalion were joined by American, Canadian, Polish and Turkish troops for Ex Anakonda 16.

Pictures show the Mercians holding nothing back in their urban environment training in Wedryzn in north-west Poland.

The 2nd Battalion are based at Dale Barracks in Upton.

An MOD spokesman said the exercise was another step to demonstrate the UK’s commitment to the Wales NATO summit and in time for the Warsaw summit in July 16.

They added the aim was to train multiple nations together to ensure they are able to travel anywhere in the world and work with each other to fulfil common security interests.

Ex Anaconda culminated in a full brigade attack alongside their allies on June 14. In total 25,000 troops from 16 nations took part in the exercise.

The UK has committed to contribute a Battlegroup to the current Spanish led rotations of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), and is due to take the lead in 2017, where it will contribute 3,000 personnel.
