MORE of Halton's roads should follow the example of the temporary limits on the bridge and drop down to a 20mph speed restriction, according to Euro MP Chris Davies.
Mr Davies says the dramatic measures are needed to reduce the number of road deaths.
Already, Halton Borough Council has designated 50 residential roads in Runcorn and Widnes as 20mph zones - but Mr Davies has indicated he would support moves to make all minor and residential roads carry the limit. He said: 'Introducing 20mph areas is a relatively cheap way for councils to improve road safety. The Government's own transport department has found the risk of a child being involved in an accident has reduced by around two-thirds where 20mph zones have been installed.
'Last year, 25 children in Halton were injured, some very seriously and even fatally, on the borough's roads.'
