TWO drunk youths broke into a Lostock Gralam hairdressers in order to shelter from the weather.

Vale Royal magistrates heard that Michael Thomas Barrow, 20, of Rudheath, and Craig Dean Yarwood, of Wincham, 19, were caught by police in possession of nail care products.

The pair admitted a charge of burglary in a non-dwelling, but sentencing of Yarwood, of Pickmere Lane, was deferred until the outcome of another matter. Barrow, of East Avenue, was told to complete an 18-month community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £118 in compensation to the Station Road hairdressers.

Robin Jones, prosecuting, told the court the incident happened on January 27. He said: 'At about 11.45pm a neighbour heard a loud bang and called the police who attended the scene and saw a pane of glass had been smashed.

'Both defendants were standing inside the premises and made their way to the rear of the building but were met by police. They began taking items from their pockets, including bags containing cash, and dropping them on the floor. Michael Barrow was found with nail products and cash and Craig Yarwood was found with a bottle of nail polish. They were quite drunk at the time.'

The pair told the court that they broke into the premises to get away from the bad weather and the items they took were of little value and no use for two men.

Yarwood, who was also found to be in breach of a conditional discharge following the theft of a bottle of whisky from Tesco last year, was released on unconditional bail until March 24.
