Memories are being sought of the music scene in Ellesmere Port in the 60s and 70s.

Radio presenter Gordon Beaumont hosts a weekly show on Flame CCR, a charity community radio station on the Wirral featuring forgotten music from the 1960s.

He is keen to record memories of the music scene in the town before they too disappear with time.

Invitation to get in touch

He says: “Do you remember The Keys , The Saints, The Mike Stewart Style and other Ellesmere Port bands from the 60s and early 70s and the clubs on Rossmore Road, Bowaters, Cabots, Castrol and the Kings Club?

“If you do I would like to hear from you and any former members of local bands.

Some of the songs Gordon hears on his show brings back memories of local bands listening to records in the Co-op record shop where he worked ‘and of venues which have sadly disappeared but are part of our local culture and heritage’.

As part of their community service Flame are planning a series of programmes to record these memories of Ellesmere Port’s music scene too.

They will also feature Ellesmere Port’s links with Chester clubs such as the Flamingo & Monte Carlo and Chester and North Wales bands such as the Hands and The Dek Dooley Band.
