Watch out! – the blond bombshell will be in town this Friday.

Love him or hate him, London mayor Boris Johnson is certainly one of the more colourful characters on the political scene today. And on Friday evening (March 20) he will be guest of honour at the Conservative Party members-only dinner taking place at the Pavilion Suite, Chester Racecourse.

The Boris Dinner is a fund-raiser in support of the Tories’ national and local election campaigns in Cheshire and Wirral including that of city MP Stephen Mosley.

Tickets are £55, which includes a pre-meal reception and a three-course dinner, followed by coffee. But there are a limited number of £100 ‘premier tickets’ available on a first come first served basis promising the party faithful a champagne reception with the man himself. Also attending will be Chester’s former MP and TV celebrity Gyles Brandreth.

Conservative spokesman Simon Harris said: “It’s going to be a very enjoyable evening. There is a real buzz about the place.”

Mr Harris said the event, which will include a tombola and auction, is essential to party fund-raising. He added: “We don’t have the unions chucking in cash. We have to raise money from our members. So we’ve had William Hague, Boris now, we had Theresa May about 15 months ago and Michael Gove about 14 months ago.”

Mr Harris reckons everyone will want their picture taken with Boris, who is standing for parliament in this May’s general election in the safe Tory seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

“After DC (David Cameron) he must be the ultimate selfie model. He’s probably the second most popular politician in the country after DC,” he said.

But there was bad news for local Conservatives this week when Tory peer and pollster Lord Ashcroft predicted Labour candidate Chris Matheson would take the City of Chester seat from Stephen Mosley MP, whose majority is just 2,583.

But Mr Harris retorted: “We don’t believe the poll. We think it’s a rogue poll. The only poll that matters is on May 7.”

Boris is being provided with a car and driver but his movements after the dinner are unknown so it is unclear whether he will be enjoying Chester’s nightlife and staying overnight. Please tweet us @ChesterChron your Boris pictures and selfies if you spot him in the city.
