RECORD-BREAKING Nantwich fundraisers are ploughing more than £20,000 into the care of cancer sufferers.
The town's branch of Macmillan Cancer Support - the new name for Macmillan Cancer Relief - is set to smash all previous amounts made for the charity.
The latest bumper boost came from a supporter very close to the heart of the group's chairman, Barbara Brookshaw.
Her son, Andrew Brookshaw, 42, made £2,500 in sponsorship after competing in the Cheshire Triathlon.
Father-of-two Andrew, who helps run the family butcher's business in Hospital Street, completed the cycling, swimming and running marathon in a respectable one hour and 21 minutes.
But the biggest money-spinner of the summer was a luncheon in a marquee at the Bridge-mere home of businessman Paul Schofield, which made more than £11,000.
Mrs Brookshaw said: 'Last year we handed more than £22,000 to the charity to help cancer sufferers in the local area and with over £17,000 already banked, we should definitely exceed that by the end of the financial year setting a new record.'
The group gave tremendous support to the Chronicle-backed Angels appeal, to boost services to South Cheshire cancer patients. Over a year they helped us raise £485,000 for Macmillan nursing services at Leighton Hospital.
A collection will be held in Sainsbury in Nantwich over the weekend and a coffee morning at the town's Parish Hall on August 24.
