THE role of tourism to South Cheshire's economy has received a boost following the appointment by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council of a Visitor Economy Development Manager.

Lucy Johnson has already taken up her post and will be based at the council's Municipal Buildings, Crewe.

She will be known to many Visit Chester & Cheshire (VCC) members in and around the South Cheshire area, having worked for VCC for more than three years with responsibility for events and membership development.

The new role is the result of a joint initiative between the council, local tourism board and VCC.

Cllr Jacquie Weatherill, portfolio holder for Human Resources said: 'We're really pleased to have Lucy on board and very much welcome this partnership with VCC.

'A thriving tourism sector is vital to the long term prosperity of the area and this new appointment will help generate greater awareness of what we can offer to visitors.'

Lucy Johnson said: 'I'm looking forward to working even more closely with business and individuals across the local visitor economy.

The priorities will be to improve co-ordination, support the development of new business and promotional opportunities, and help ensure existing potential is fully exploited for the benefit of local communities and the wider Cheshire economy.'
