Man reportedly spotted on M56 travelling towards traffic – on his BICYCLE

Cheshire police confirmed they responded to the report but couldn't find the cyclist

A man was reportedly spotted cycling along the hard shoulder of a notorious stretch of the M56 in Cheshire this afternoon (September 21).

A concerned member of the public called the police to say they'd spotted the cyclist riding eastbound against the direction of oncoming traffic on the westbound carriageway near junction 12 for Runcorn at around 3.25pm.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary confirmed they and Highways England sent officers to the scene but didn't find any trace of the risk-taking cyclist.

The sighting comes on the same day Highways England data has revealed that a crash happens every three days on the M56 between Chester and Runcorn.
