A MAN was left with damage to his eye after he was assaulted after challenging a rowdy group of yobs on a train at Cuddington.

A group of three men got on to the train - the 23.08 Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service - at either Altrincham or Stockport and were acting in a loud and disorderly manner throughout the journey.

But when the victim, a 35-year-old man, challenged the group about their behaviour they began to make threats toward him and when they got off the train at Cuddington, one punched him to the face.

He received a black eye and a cuts which resulted in a loss of vision which may be permanent and was treated at hospital for his injuries.

The man who is believed to have punched the victim is described as white, aged 18-20 and with fair hair, wearing blue jeans and a white or turquoise T-shirt. He is also thought to have had his left eyebrow pierced.

The other two males were white with short fair hair, about 18-20 years of age wearing blue jeans and T-shirts.

A woman was with them and was also about 18-20.

PC David Rams of British Transport Police said: 'We are appealing for anyone who was on the train to come forward who witnessed the incident or has any information.

'We are also appealing to anyone who recognises the descriptions, in particularly the male with the pierced eyebrow.

'They got off the train at Cuddington in the early hours of the morning so it may be that they are local to this area.'
