A young musician found dead in the Shropshire Union Canal in Chester has been named.

An inquest into the death of Daniel Rees Horner, 21, of Mold Road, Broughton,was opened and adjourned this afternoon (Thursday). His occupation is described as ‘musician’.

Police are treating Mr Horner’s death on  Bank Holiday Monday as  ‘unexplained’ but not  suspicious.

Officers were called to  the canal at the back of  terraced houses, not far  from The Bridge Inn,  Boughton, at 3.30pm after a member of the  public made the grim  discovery. A crowd gathered at  the spot where police  later taped off the canal  towpath.

The deceased was pulled out of the water by specialist officers from the Underwater Search Unit.
