A man has been detained following an alleged attack in Northwich town centre which left a 24-year-old victim with ‘serious injuries’.

The 20-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

He is currently helping officers with their enquiries.

Police received reports of an altercation between two men outside Halifax Bank on Witton Street between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday (May 1).

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “As a result of the incident one of the men – a 24-year-old local man – sustained serious injuries. He received treatment in hospital and has since been discharged and is currently recovering at home.”
